Summer 1 Studio Final Post

 

This last week has been hectic. Working on this piece was a really nice way to take a break from everything else and just focus on one thing. I think, I finally like it now that it's done, but it was a love hate relationship for most of the time I was working it. I feel like it succeeds in conveying a sense of confusion and chaos. The place itself seems to be the most dangerous subject of the work, but the creatures vary from neutral or friendly to sinister. This goes well with my view of current events being chaotic and frightening, which makes me remember my childhood fears with fondness.

I had planned from the beginning to paint the finished piece, but almost left it just pen and ink. I have a habit of ruining work by trying to do to much with one thing and I was afraid the paint might be pushing it to far. In this case I'm glad I went ahead with the color. I like the way that it turned out, but mostly I just really enjoyed the process of painting it. It's a much less exacting task than drawing or hatching. I did take some pictures before I started painting just in case though.
